Project 365 Sunday (Wednesday) update #6

by Robert Whetton 25. February 2010 02:06
Oh boy, where does the time go? this was meant to be up on Sunday, but time was against me once more and I've only just found the time to put the photographs of week 7 up. I was hoping to have shot a local dance school this month, but for whatever reason it didn't come through.. But other things have come up in its place and kept me pretty busy over the past week. Some other photography is, Dan from Dorset Rock Online, he was good enough to be my victim.. errr, subject on Monday as we hit Bournemouth and shot some off camera strobe portraits. And also tonight I was shooting at the O2 Academy in Boscombe, they'd like it to be Bournemouth, but its not in Bournemouth O2, its Boscombe..

Weather again, good old English weather in the winter, guaranteed for it to rain! so studio style shots once more. Starting with Day 46. Just using my office light.

How sharp can it be? Day 47 reversed 50 1.8 as a Macro.

I found my mini Leatherman after clearing a little of my office on Day 48.

Analogue film for an APS camera is the subject for Day 49, something else I found when doing the clear out of my office.

My 50 1.8 taken with my 28 1.8 for day 50. I deliberately overexposed, I think it works well for this shot.

Saturday and we hit Moors Valley Country Park as the weather turned out nice! This is actually 5 shots of Max practising Parkour (he's become obsessed with it lately). Day 51.

Sunday Day 52. Wow has it really been 52 days since I decided that I would start this project! that's 1/6 of the way through the year! Sunday was the S.P.R.I.N.G Snowdrop walk. Every year members get together in remembrance of their children who didn't make it through pregnancy or departed just after birth, to let off a helium balloon. This year the balloons were banned for environmental reasons, so everyone blew bubbles instead. The event is held at Kingston Lacy nr Wimborne. Day 52 is Maisy and Max with Rachel in some Snowdrops.

Hopefully, Sunday I will be updating as normal..

Canford School Orchestra and Choir at The Lighthouse, Poole - Dorset Events Photographer Robert Whetton

by Robert Whetton 15. February 2010 17:48

So last minute, I get an e-mail from Canford School asking if I'm free on the Sunday evening (this is Friday, or it would have been if I actually got the e-mail.. Luckily they Facebooked me instead on the Sat to make sure I had gotten the e-mail). I dropped everything for that night, so i could spend my Sunday evening shooting at The Lighthouse instead. The spot I was shooting from was so far away from the stage, I was up on the balcony over looking the stage, a good 100 feet away, which is a challenge in itself without the hindrance of bad downward light and everyone wearing white blouses or shirts.. but I think these shots speak for themselves.

I was chatting to Canford Schools Marketing before Christmas last year about the Jekyll and Hyde play and how I thought the children were amazing. They practice singing, acting and musical skills in their own time. Which when you consider they have 1 day off a week (Sunday) and mixed in with all the other activities they do, its a testament to their hard work that these events they put on for the parents are so amazing! I feel honoured to be asked to take the photographs at these performances.

by Robert Whetton 15. February 2010 01:58
Last Month I was interviewed by Dan @ Dorset Rock Online about how I got into gig photography. I'd like to thank Dan for having me in his command center, for the drink and sorry for chatting for so long and from keeping you from your dinner.

Project 365 Sunday update #5

by Robert Whetton 12. February 2010 14:34
These weeks are passing too quickly! need to slow down...

I've been pretty much locked up in the Office all week processing photographs, so the majority of shots are taken of stuff from around the office..

My headphones for when I really want to crank the music and not piss off the neighbours. Day 39.

A birthday present from my brother for Day 40, this is a hand made out of graphite so you can actually write or draw with it, pretty cool.

A gift from my brother for being his head usher when he got married for the second time. Maui Jim's, I really need to get perscription lenses for these, but have never got round to having them made, so they sit on the shelf in my office.. Day 41

Day 42 is a Satsuma. I cut through the skin with a scapel and left it a while. Its started growing mold, so after this shot I took it out of the office and left it on the compost heap at the end of the garden.

Bare flash from my 580EX for day 43. This is a garden chair at my parents. I prefer to shoot through an umbrella to give a soft light, but I quite like the harshness on the metal.

Big Tissue? sorry a poor standing joke. This Big Issue seller was my victim for Day 44.

I spent all day editing photographs, and wanted to go out for a walk. Time got the better of me and so once again left with another shot from inside the office for Day 45.
