Project 365 Sunday update #8 & 9

by Robert Whetton 15. March 2010 02:33
Appologies, time for blogging doesn't seem to have been my friend of late. But here are the past 2 weeks of my 365.

Wandering through the local forest I bumped into Mark walking the family lab, Day 60.

Day 61 leaves. I thought the texture on these dry leaves warranted a photograph.

Day 63. Looking around for interesting textures, this is bark from a dead fir tree.

Day 64. I stumbled upon some broken glass, different colours etc. I just thought the way the light was hitting it gave it a nice look.

Out with the 28 1.8 for Day 65. seeing how close I could get to some grass.

Day 67, FOCUS on Imaging, NEC Arena Birmingham. 50D test image. Gareth Heesom let me borrow his 50D so I could give it a test run while we were wandering around FOCUS. I cranked the ISO to the highest setting 12,800 to see how it handled noise, and to allow me to see what I needed to do to reduce the amount of noise in the image while capturing, I think I still have a way to go before I can make ISO12,800 as clean as the 20D @ ISO3200.

Day 70. Random flower in the conservatory.

Day 71. Yup another random flower, don't ask me, I'm no botanist..

Day 72. Max got my dad to build him a ramp. This was the most air he managed to grab. Although I should have been shooting at a smaller aperture to capture more of him in focus, I still like it.

We spent the day at Crufts. This English Setter didn't make it though, but he had such a great look about him, I had to ask the owner if he minded me taking a shot. He had a great temperament as well..

iPhone armour - Bitznfix

by Robert Whetton 5. March 2010 14:00
So I got my iPhone 3Gs just after Christmas and bought a cheap cover for it on ebay. Having seen the past accidents that people have with their iPhone, I am well aware how easy it is to break the Apple phone.. I've dropped it a couple of times now while taking it from a pocket to answer an incoming call or to update with a tweet..

Chris at Bitzinfix hooked me up with some armour for my phone, granted it does make the iPhone that much chunkier, but that doesn't bother me. Max even said it looked cool when he saw it. I do like the fact that it covers all the connection ports to stop gunk getting in.

I've had the armour for 4 days now, and it doesn't get in the way of using the phone for all my usual tasks, checking e-mail, Twittering, ebay, phone, games. How much does it protect the phone? well I'm not about to start throwing it around to find out, but I'm not as worried as I was before about it taking a tumble...

Here are some photographs of it.

The armour comes in a variety of colours, blue, pink, black and white.

If you're not too bothered about your iPhone not looking like an iPhone any more, this is worth a tenner in my book.

Project 365 Sunday (Monday) update #7

by Robert Whetton 2. March 2010 01:31
59 days! has it really been nearly 60 days since I started this?! Amazing how time flies..
Yes I am aware that I said I would have the shots up by Sunday, but 1 day off isn't too bad?

What's that? more studio set up shots? Yeah well I have no control over good old English weather.. Mid afternoon snack for Day 53, I busted out the studio strobes instead of using my 580EX. Much higher Depth of Field with these bad boys..

Fun on Day 56. Seeing how high my studio strobes sync with my 20D - 1/320, pretty good, I can see I will have to look into getting a battery pack for these for using out of the studio.

Project 365 Sunday (Wednesday) update #6

by Robert Whetton 25. February 2010 02:06
Oh boy, where does the time go? this was meant to be up on Sunday, but time was against me once more and I've only just found the time to put the photographs of week 7 up. I was hoping to have shot a local dance school this month, but for whatever reason it didn't come through.. But other things have come up in its place and kept me pretty busy over the past week. Some other photography is, Dan from Dorset Rock Online, he was good enough to be my victim.. errr, subject on Monday as we hit Bournemouth and shot some off camera strobe portraits. And also tonight I was shooting at the O2 Academy in Boscombe, they'd like it to be Bournemouth, but its not in Bournemouth O2, its Boscombe..

Analogue film for an APS camera is the subject for Day 49, something else I found when doing the clear out of my office.

My 50 1.8 taken with my 28 1.8 for day 50. I deliberately overexposed, I think it works well for this shot.

Saturday and we hit Moors Valley Country Park as the weather turned out nice! This is actually 5 shots of Max practising Parkour (he's become obsessed with it lately). Day 51.

Sunday Day 52. Wow has it really been 52 days since I decided that I would start this project! that's 1/6 of the way through the year! Sunday was the S.P.R.I.N.G Snowdrop walk. Every year members get together in remembrance of their children who didn't make it through pregnancy or departed just after birth, to let off a helium balloon. This year the balloons were banned for environmental reasons, so everyone blew bubbles instead. The event is held at Kingston Lacy nr Wimborne. Day 52 is Maisy and Max with Rachel in some Snowdrops.

Hopefully, Sunday I will be updating as normal..
